Thursday, May 1st

Welcome to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, located at 2401 E. Camelback Road, Phoenix, AZ 85016, the main telephone number is (602) 468-0700. DSI is paying for your room, gratuities and the baggage transfers for your arrival and departure as well as all planned meals throughout the meeting. All other charges will be your responsibility.

The DSI Hospitality Suite is available for refreshments and assistance throughout the Symposium. It is located in the Esplanade Suite, Room 227, on the second floor. The schedule for the Hospitality Suite is as follows:

Welcome Reception and Dinner
This evening you are invited to our welcome reception and dinner. It starts at 6:30 on the Pool Deck, also located on the second floor. The theme for Friday night’s dinner is “Route 66”, in honor of everyone’s travel to Phoenix. Attire is casual, please dress comfortably to enjoy the evening outdoors. We will dine on American specialties and listen to the sounds of all-American music from the “Mother Road”.

 

Friday, May 2nd

A full buffet breakfast will be held daily in the Terrace Room located on the second floor. Nationwide Labs is sponsoring breakfast each day:

Medical meetings begin at 8:00 a.m. and continue until 12:00 noon. All medical meetings will be held in Salons I and II on the first floor.  Friday’s speaker schedule includes:

Physicians will break for lunch at noon. Lunch will be served in the Terrace Room on the second floor. All guests are invited to lunch in the Terrace Room from noon until 1:30 p.m.

Friday afternoon there will be small group break-out sessions. These include two advanced Pearl training sessions conducted by Dr. Jerome Tannenbaum. You can sign up for the small group sessions at the Friday morning meeting. Topics include:

Pearl training will be held throughout the symposium, a time will be assigned for each physician upon arrival.

 

All-Day Friday Outing
For guests not attending medical meetings, Deborah Tannenbaum is hosting a tour of Taliesin West followed by lunch and a tour of the Arizona Biltmore. If you have not signed up and wish to go on this tour check with the Hospitality Suite for availability. This is a great opportunity to experience two remarkable designs of Frank Lloyd Wright. We will leave the hotel at 9:45 a.m. and return by 4:00 p.m.

Banquete Latino Bajo las Estrellas (South American Feast Under the Stars)
Friday evening we will board shuttle busses at 6:30 for dinner under the stars at the Royal Palms Hotel and Spa. Attire for Friday’s dinner will be business casual.

 

Saturday, May 3rd

A full buffet breakfast is sponsored by Nationwide Labs. It will be held each day in the Terrace Room located on the second floor:

All-Day Saturday Outing
Deborah Tannenbaum has a special day planned for guests not attending medical meetings. We will leave the hotel at 9:45 for a private tour and lunch at the Desert Botanical Gardens. Following lunch we will depart for the Heard Museum for a private tour of that spectacular facility. We will return to the hotel by 4:30 p.m. If you have not signed up for this tour and wish to participate check with the Hospitality Suite for availability.

Saturday Afternoon Outings:

Golf with Steve Harrison
Transportation leaves at 12:15 p.m. from the Hotel’s front entrance. Please bring your box lunch from the tables outside Salon I and II on the first floor.

Desert Hummer Tour
               The Hummer picks you up from the Hotel’s side entrance at 12:15 and heads to the Four Peaks area of the Tonto National Forest just north of Scottsdale. You will travel approximately 30 miles off road with a stop at Saguaro Lake where the scenery is awe-inspiring. Closed-toe shoes are recommended for this outing. Pick up your box lunch before leaving the hotel, they will be outside Salon I and II on the first floor. You will return by 4:30.

Desert Hiking
               Experienced guides lead you through a choice of nine different trails. More than a nature walk, the hike is designed for individuals of modest or better fitness levels. Plan to bring appropriate apparel for this activity. Transportation departs from the Hotel’s front entrance at 12:30 and returns at 4:30. Pick up your box lunch from the table outside Salon I and II on the first floor before leaving the hotel. The guides will also have chilled water and snacks on the hike.

Mountain Biking
               Enjoy 70-mile views across the Sonoran Desert from your high-performance mountain bike. The experienced guides provide all necessary equipment and select a route accessible for all skill levels. Please bring appropriate apparel with you. Tranportation leaves the Hotel’s front entrance at 12:30, please take your box lunch with you from the table outside Salon I and II on the first floor, this tour also returns by 4:30.

 

An afternoon on your own
               Last year some of you expressed an interest in having some down-time. None of the outings are mandatory and if you prefer to spend a quiet afternoon on your own this is the time to do it. If you are a shopper Biltmore Fashion Park is across the street with everything from Cartier’s to Saks Fifth Avenue. It is also home to Elizabeth Arden’s Red Door Spa. You can choose to read a book by the hotel’s pool, it’s up to you.

If you did not sign up for an outing or have any questions, stop by the Hospitality Suite for availability of any of the outings or assistance.

 

Saturday Night
We are in for a treat! First we’ll gather in the Foyer on the first floor at 6:30 for a reception. At 7:15 we will move to the Ballroom for a fabulous dinner and at 8:00 we will all enjoy the sounds of Henle and the Loops. Bring your dancing shoes, they promise to rock the house. Attire for Saturday night’s dinner will be business casual.

 

Sunday, May 4th

A full buffet breakfast, sponsored by Nationwide Labs, is in the Terrace Room located on the second floor:

Noon, we are adjourned. Please check out of your room and pickup a box lunch for the road. They will be on a table located near Salon I and II on the first floor. The hotel will make sure adequate ground transportation is available to take you to the airport.

 

Details about the 2008 DSI Nephrology Symposium

DSI will reimburse you for up to two roundtrip coach airline tickets and ground transportation to the hotel from the airport and back. A DSI Expense Report and envelope is in this Symposium packet, please attach your receipts to the report for reimbursement. You may either leave it in the drop box before you leave the hotel or mail it back at your convenience.
