What is DSI?

Diversified Specialty Institutes, Inc. (DSI), was formed in 2003 to acquire, develop, and/or operate, hospitals that provide inpatient and ambulatory outpatient care to patients needing diagnosis and treatment in selected areas of medicine and surgery.

These hospitals typically would have between 16 and 50 licensed in-patient beds, 2-8 operating rooms, an in-hospital pharmacy, laboratory, sophisticated X-ray department, and depending on the state regulations, a small emergency department.

There might be additional procedure rooms depending on the needs of the facility. Each will be state-of-the-art facilities that offer a service oriented caring environment for the patient and the patient’s family.

In 2005, DSI expanded its offerings to also include imaging centers, especially those geared towards breast imaging, and dialysis clinics to treat patients with kidney disease.

The Business Premise:

We believe that the most important ingredient for a successful healthcare facility is the quality of the admitting physician staff. The starting point for developing a DSI facility is a collegial relationship with selected premier physicians in a community. The DSI facility developed in that community will only focus on those physicians' specialties.

The DSI facility, catering to a limited number of physicians will provide a respectful and responsive environment to the physicians’ requests, which will ultimately contribute to improved overall patient care and satisfaction.

The DSI Facility Concept:

DSI facilities, whether a hospital, imaging center, or clinic, focus on the comprehensive management of selected health areas. By placing emphasis on specific areas of medicine and surgery, the DSI facility can focus on delivering comprehensive care that carefully coordinates all the disciplines in one setting. Coordinated care streamlines the health delivery process and minimizes the chance of error due to poor communication amongst various members of the medical community caring for a particular patient.

Furthermore, because the focus of the Facility is generally limited to one or a few medical and surgical specialties, the clinical staff can be better trained on the care of patients with these selected conditions and requirements.

Also, because of this focus, the facilities can be physically smaller which results in a lower operating cost than large conventional medical centers. By having a facility with a narrow focus, the facility can and will be equipped with the most advanced equipment available for the facility's specialties.

In summary, the DSI concept is designed to provide excellent patient care and improve the quality of life for the patients, patients’ families, employees, and physicians at a DSI facility.

DSI is especially focused on the following medical areas, each of which is a growing concern or area of medicine in the United States today:

• Diagnosis and Treatment of Breast Cancer.

• Plastic and reconstructive surgery.

• Kidney Dialysis for treatment of severe kidney disease.

• Vascular access and renal (kidney) transplantation for treatment
of severe kidney disease.

DSI believes that each of these specific areas represents a significant opportunity for this model of healthcare delivery in the United States for the next two decades.

Although each market has specific characteristics, the method of delivering streamlined high quality care is similar, once the patient is attracted to the facility. The key to attracting patients is through affiliation with America’s finest physicians. The founders of DSI (Maxwell and Tannenbaum) are well known to the leading physicians in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Nephrology and Renal Transplantation, respectively.
